Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our DICOM and DCM converter.

A DICOM converter (or DCM converter) transforms DICOM (.dcm) medical imaging files — used by CT scanners, MRI machines, X-ray systems, and ultrasound devices — into standard image formats like JPEG, PNG, or PDF that any device can open without specialist software.
To convert DICOM to JPEG: (1) Drop your .dcm file into the converter at the top of this page. (2) Wait for the DICOM image to render. (3) Click the yellow "Download JPEG" button. The entire DICOM to JPEG conversion is free and requires no account.
No — your DICOM files are never uploaded. All conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The image data stays on your device at all times, making this DICOM converter safe for protected health information (PHI).
Our DCM converter supports standard uncompressed DICOM files in grayscale (MONOCHROME1/MONOCHROME2) and color (RGB) formats — covering most CT, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound images. Encapsulated/compressed DICOM formats (JPEG2000, JPEG-LS) are not currently supported.
DICOM images store 12–16 bits per pixel which must be mapped to the 256 levels a monitor can show. Window/Level (W/L) controls which range of values are displayed — e.g., a "bone window" on CT looks very different from a "soft tissue window". Our converter applies W/L automatically and lets you adjust it manually before downloading.
Drop your .dcm file into the converter, adjust the image if needed with the W/L sliders, then click "Download PDF". The DCM to PDF export creates a standard A4 PDF document with the medical image centered and scaled, ready to include in a report or send to a colleague.
